The Word says in Matthew 8:8 The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof, but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed."
Today, what would you do if Jesus were coming to your house? Most people would be excited. Perhaps, like Martha, having to do a tidy up before the Lord comes in. However, we read in this verse the centurion only wanted the Word spoken. He understood Jesus as a man of authority.
It's what the centurion said that caused Jesus to marvel. The centurion realized that Jesus spoke the Word, and that there was power in that Word.
He was a man in authority over soldiers. He gave orders. Being a man in authority he saw that Jesus was also a man with authority, with authority of His words. He recognized that Jesus didn't have to physically go to his house to heal the servant, that all Jesus had to do was speak the Word and the servant would be healed.
The centurion recognized that the power is in the Word. "Speak the Word only," he said, "and my servant will be healed."
Why is that? The Word is the power of God for our lives! In Romans 1:16 Paul says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for IT is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."
The Word is the power of God for whatever you need!
Proverbs 4:20-21 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
What you find here in Proverbs 4:20-27 is commonly called the law of receiving.
It's clear, then, that the key to receiving is our attention to the Word of God.
We must incline our ears unto God's Word every day and let them [the words] not depart from your eyes. The 'them' here refers to the words, the holy scriptures. So we must keep the scriptures in the mist of your heart.
If we do as the Bible says, we will find the Word is life and health to all our flesh. Life and health is in the Word of God.
The original Hebrew word for health is 'marpe’ and it means 'medicine'. The Word is medicine to our flesh. Have you ever noticed something about medicine? Usually the reason a person takes medicine is to feel better. For example, a person gets a headache then they may take some pain relief medication. It goes into the body, immediately goes into the bloodstream, heads straight to the problem area and rids the body of pain.
Likewise, the Word of God is medicine to our flesh. When we put the Word of God in your heart (by reading and meditating on it throughout the day), it goes straight to the problem area and kicks out whatever is causing the problem. Or shines a light on to problem areas in our lives.
Putting it simply, if we have doubt in our heart, the Word comes in and gets rid of the doubt. It breaks it apart and it kicks it out.
The Word is working in us. It is in you, breaking up the problem. It is working because the Word is the power. It is the power of God unto those that believe!
So make sure you have your daily dose of the Word; it is your medicine from God.
