Freedom In Christ

In both the Old and New Testaments we learn that Jesus was anointed to preach the message of FREEDOM. Sometime between 701 and 686 years before Christ was born, the prophet Isaiah preached of the Good News of Salvation that would one day appear to all men, both Jew and Gentile alike.

Isaiah 61:1-2 Living Translation "The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favour has come..."

This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus spoke these words as recorded in Luke 4:18-19 AMP "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity]."

Verse 19 "To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favours of God profusely abound]."

Jesus told the people of His day that His Words were GOOD NEWS that would make them FREE, if they would just accept it. The people had been so blinded by religion and trying to live up to The Law, that they didn’t even know they were in bondage.

John 8:32 and 36 And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Jesus was sent to preach and teach the GOOD NEWS of the MESSAGE OF FREEDOM that God had promised through Abraham all those years ago, and it's still the same today! If we accept it as THE TRUTH we can be FREE, because if we are in Christ we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise, just as Paul said.

Galatians 3:29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Enjoy a great freedom week!
