Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stayed on You!
Knowing your purpose gives real meaning to your life. This is why people read their horoscopes and try doubtful and questionable methods like astrology, psychic reading and other demonic means to discover it.
A friend of mine, who has now gone on to be with the Lord, was a powerful minister for the things of God; he used to say that people were reading their horrible scopes.
When your life has a strong purpose you can bear almost any situation. Without knowing your strong purpose nothing is tolerable. Life is difficult and even senseless sometimes.
Isaiah complained in Isaiah 49:4 "Then I said, ‘I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; yet surely my just reward is with the Lord, and my work with my God."
Job cried in Job 7:16 "I give up; I am tired of living. Leave me alone. My life makes no sense".
Bernie Siegel is an American writer and retired pediatric surgeon and has written about the relationship between the patient and the healing process. He is known for his best-selling book Love, Medicine and Miracles.
Dr. Siegel found that he could predict which of his cancer patients were most likely to survive by asking, "Do you want to live to be 100?"
Those with a deep sense of purpose, who answered "Yes!" were the ones who would live through the sickness and survive.
So having a strong purpose simplifies life. It defines what you do and what you don't do. It becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential and which are not.
Without a strong purpose you've no real foundation on which to base your decisions, allocate your time and use your resources. You tend to make choices based on circumstances, pressures and your mood at that moment. When you don't know your purpose you try to do too much, and that causes stress and conflict. It's impossible to do everything people want you to do; God gave you just enough time to do His will. If you can't get it all done, you're trying to do more than He intended you to do.
A strong purpose makes your lifestyle simpler and your schedule more manageable, and that all leads to peace of mind.
A strong sense of purpose will do a number of things in your life:
Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
Will keep your priorities straight:
Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Develop your potential:
Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint!
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Give you ability to live in the present:
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Help you evaluate your progress:
Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:1-4 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
